French fashion designer Pierre Cardin was born Pietro Costante Cardin in San Biagio di Callalta near Treviso in 1922. Together with his colleagues André Courrèges and Paco Rabanne, he was responsible for the futuristic fashion style from 1963 onwards. As the youngest of seven children of a wine merchant, he learned early on how to act and assert himself. He was drawn to Paris at an early age, where he began working as a fashion illustrator for Paquin in 1944. 76 years of work prove his high affinity to the fashion world. In 1947 he started at Christian Dior and designed the New Look for women, characterised by narrow shoulders, tight waists and flared skirts. He was the first couturier to start his own haute couture company in 1950. Pierre Cardin wanted to produce high-quality, affordable ready-to-wear clothing for every woman. Since then, he has worked tirelessly in the spirit of his ideas and created wearable fashion just as much for Lidl as for the army, the police or the post office. His clothes are characterised by high wearability, a sporty-elegant touch and high-quality materials.
